Emporia’s Heartland Hounds has secured a Tourism Attraction Development Grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce.
Heartland Hounds is getting $100,000 to develop a Heartland Hounds Dockplex, which will lead to a new indoor dock diving and sport complex. Kansas Tourism will formally present the grant at 2:45 pm Friday at Heartland Hounds, 912 Commercial.
Heartland Hounds had its ribbon-cutting this past October and offers dog training and canine wellness options. The grant will support a $300,000 tourism-centered expansion and is designed to build the only North America Diving Dogs-contracted center in the state. It could also support up to 10 full-time-equivalent jobs and bring up to 6,000 people per year to Emporia if current projections are accurate.
