The Emporia State baseball team scored the last four runs of the game on the way to a 9-6 victory over Central Oklahoma on Friday to open a three-game series at Wendell Simmons Field in Edmond, Okla. The Hornets peppered the ‘Chos for three runs in the third before a Nathon Cruz homer made it 4-0 through three and a half, but UCO took the lead with five runs in the bottom of the inning. An Evan Abbott double tied it for E-State in the fourth before UCO took the lead back in the fifth. After a Logan Myers double in the sixth to tie the game, ESU manufactured the last three runs scoring on two ground outs and a wild pitch. Seth Stover gave up five runs in his three innings for a no decision but only one of the runs was earned. Nick Woodcock pitched the next three innings in relief to pick up the win surrendering just one UCO score. Grant Huffman picked up his third save with a scoreless and hitless ninth. ESU (15-5, 6-4 MIAA) goes for the series win on Saturday. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
