Emporia city commissioners have several economic development projects to address during their meeting schedule Wednesday.
Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the Cedarbrook Meadows residential and commercial project along the north side of West 18th between Jones Aquatic Center and Americus Road. The hearing, based on a possible Reinvestment Housing Incentive District designation, will likely lead to a vote on the district and development agreement.
Commissioners will also consider an ordinance rezoning 1028 Whittier, the site of the former Abundant Harvest food kitchen, from Commercial to Flex-Use Low so Whittier Place Apartments next door can use the property for a new apartment building on the complex.
Commissioners could also approve an ordinance annexing land at 600 Overlander as requested by Midcontinent Orion for an equipment yard. The city will retain the current Light Industrial zoning if approved.
For infrastructure matters, commissioners could approve the city’s City Connecting Link Improvement Program annual agreement with the Kansas Department of Transportation. The project this year involves a mill and overlay project on US Highway 50 from Lincoln to Neosho.
Study meeting matters include a financial review of the Emporia Public Library and a strategic direction session. Between the action and study meetings, commissioners will have an executive session on economic development.
The action meeting begins at 11 am at the Municipal Court Room. The study meeting follows at White Auditorium Wheeler Conference Room.
