Development is underway at Champions Landing, recently bolstered by a Kansas Tourism Attraction Grant.
Kansas Tourism granted almost $82,000 officially to Dynamic Brewing doing business as Champions Landing. The goal, according to Champions Landing owner Jeremy Rusco, is to enhance the disc golf experience already well established — while adding to the city’s short-term lodging availability through RV pads and “tiny home” pads. Work to those ends is already underway.
Rusco says the tiny home pads will be built near the pond, while the RV area will be between the pond and maintenance equipment.
There are four tiny home or lofted cabins currently planned, along with four RV pads. The disc golf improvements, meanwhile, include upgrades to tee pads, fairways, a rock wall and landscaping.
Rusco tells KVOE News the grant covers 40 percent of the project costs. Rusco stresses there is no local funding associated with these improvements.
Work is taking place with all three projects simultaneously. Rusco wants the improvements to be done by Memorial Day — just in time for some of Emporia’s biggest tourism events.
Several applications in the KVOE listening area fared well with the latest round of grants:
*$100,000 to Heartland Hounds for the Heartland Hounds Dockplex — an indoor dock diving and sports complex as part of a $300,000 project
*$75,000 to The Star Block project in Osage City
*$40,000 to the Morris County Historic Preservation Corporation
