Emporia Fire responded to a fire that destroyed a vehicle and a separate fire that damaged another Wednesday.
Fire Capt. Ben Lienemann tells KVOE News a UTV caught fire near Roads 280 and P around 7:45 pm. The riders escaped the situation safely, but the vehicle was destroyed. A cause has not been listed.
Meanwhile, a northbound pickup on Interstate 35 caught fire near the Burlingame Road for unlisted reasons shortly before 4 pm. The load of leaves and other debris caught fire, as did the truck bed. The fire then transitioned to nearby grass.
Firefighters got both parts of the incident handled quickly, but the rear half of the pickup was heavily damaged and the load was destroyed.
7:30 pm Wednesday: Truck fire spreads to nearby grass just east of Emporia
No injuries were reported after a pickup truck hauling leaves and other debris caught fire near Emporia on Wednesday.

A separate grass fire developed along Interstate 35 near mile marker 136, or just east of the Road R exit, shortly after 2 pm. That fire was small and was put out quickly. A cause has not been listed.
