A Council Grove church had moderate fire and heavy smoke damage after a fire Wednesday.
Council Grove Berean Baptist, 330 Huffaker, caught fire Wednesday. Council Grove Assistant Fire Chief and Public Information Officer Steve Crichton tells KVOE News fire developed in two offices and caused damage to the south half of the church. Smoke damage was evident throughout the church.
The church was empty. There were no injuries. Crichton says the Office of Kansas State Fire Marshal’s investigation is leaning towards an electrical issue as the cause. The impact on church services and other church activities is to be determined; calls to the church do not ring through.
Council Grove Fire and Rescue responded, as did Council Grove Police, Morris County deputies, Morris County Emergency Management, Morris County EMS, Dunlap Fire and Herington Fire.
