An appeal is likely after Emporian Daniel Olivarez was sentenced to a lengthy prison term on several aggravated-level criminal counts Wednesday.
Lyon County Judge Lee Fowler sentenced Olivarez to 208 months total, or over 17 years in prison. Olivarez got over 2 years of jail credit with the sentence.
Olivarez was originally charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated residential burglary, aggravated indecent liberties and aggravated witness intimidation — among 14 total counts related to two general sets of crimes, including an alleged kidnapping and standoff incident in January 2024, along with illegal sexual activity with a child in 2023. Olivarez accepted an Alford plea — meaning he says he was innocent while acknowledging enough evidence from prosecutors for a conviction — on aggravated indecent liberties, aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping counts. As part of the plea agreement, Olivarez has to register as a sex offender.
