The Emporia State baseball team used two big innings on the way to a 15-0 run-rule victory over New Mexico Highlands in seven innings to open a four-game series on Friday at the Trusler Sports Complex in Emporia. The Hornets put on a baserunning play taking an out to score in the first inning then manufacturing another run in the third. ESU added four in the fifth before taking advantage of five walks, three hit batters, and four hits to score nine runs in the sixth and put the game away. Noah Steele highlighted the innings with a three-run homer. Seth Stover (4-0) suffocated the Cowboys picking up the complete game victory striking out five while allowing just three hits. Head coach John Martin said every pitch was working for his starter.
Logan Myers finished 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI’s. He said the offense is confident when they get rolling.
Steele finished 3-for-3 on the day for the Hornets. E-State (18-6, 8-5 MIAA) plays two on Saturday to continue the four-game series with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m.
