A head-on crash in Marion County has claimed the life of an Emporia man.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the incident happened on US Highway 56 near the junction with Kansas Highway 256 near Marion shortly before 6 am. A pickup driven by 32-year-old Gregory Campbell of Emporia was westbound, while a semi driven by 51-year-old Brian McGrew of Longford was eastbound. For unlisted reasons, Campbell’s truck crossed the center line and hit the semi, sending Campbell into a ditch while McGrew’s truck overturned and blocked US-56.
Campbell was pronounced dead, while McGrew suffered potential injuries and declined a hospital trip for treatment. McGrew was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, but Campbell was not.
