Emporia softball swept Wichita South Friday by a combined score 29-0 at Peter Pan Park.
Izzy Ultreras homered and drove in five as Emporia won game one 10-0 in five innings.
Molly Williams reached on a bunt single and scored in the first to give the Lady Spartans the early lead. EHS added four runs in the second as Ultreras drove in two with a single. Emporia scored three in the third taking a commanding 8-0 advantage. Ultreras called game in the fifth with a walk off inside the park home for the mercy rule win.
Alivia Barrett earned the win with 12 strikeouts. Coach Tommy McClure said his ace bounced back after a rough first outing.
Ultreras and Oaklie Dawson each finished with three hits. Molly Williams scored three runs and stole two bases.
The Black and Red erupted for fourteen first innings runs in a mercy rule win 19-0 in game two.
Ultreras homed for a second time on the day and drove in another five runs. Marley Sewell had two hits including a triple and four RBI’s.
Delaney Davis earned the shutout win while punching out four.
McClure hopes his team can use this doubleheader to raise confidence.
EHS improves to 3-1. Centennial League action is next hosting Hayden on Tuesday.
