The Emporia State track & field teams welcomed in over 1000 athletes on Opening Day for the outdoor track & field season at the ESU Spring Open at Welch Stadium on Friday. Athletes from NCAA Division I all the way down to NAIA were in competition. Freshman Stella Agbokpah finished third in the women’s 100m dash with an 11.63. The Hornets went 1-2 in the men’s 200m dash with Ezekiel Seamster winning with a 21.07. Israel Domeh finished second. The Lady Hornets pulled off the 1-2 sweep in the women’s event with Agbokpah winning with a time of 24.02 while Barbara Bentum was the runner-up. Brooklyn Nolte was second in the women’s 5000m run. Brooks Lowe finished runner-up in the men’s javelin with a toss of 208 ft.-10 in. Max Neeley was third in the men’s pole vault. Dylan Hunter wrapped the evening winning the men’s 10000m run. The Hornets return to action back at Welch Stadium on Friday, April 3 to host the Midwest Classic & Multis.
