The Flint Hills Optimists are preparing for their next community event following the All-Star Classic, with their annual Easter Egg Hunt set for Saturday at Jones Park.
The event begins at 10 a.m., and organizers are encouraging families to arrive early. Stan Fowler, speaking Tuesday on the KVOE Morning Show, said turnout is expected to be strong as it has been for decades. Fowler made sure to stress arriving early as parking can fill up fast.
The Optimists anticipate hundreds of children will take part in the hunt, continuing a tradition that has spanned 40 years. Fowler said participants can expect plenty of candy as the organization once again plans for a large crowd.
While the event has evolved over time in terms of organization and scale, Fowler noted one constant remains: the excitement and enjoyment the event brings to children each year.
This year’s hunt will feature five different age divisions for children ages nine and younger, along with a separate hunt designed for those with special needs.
The Easter Bunny will also be on site for photos with families.
Another Easter event is scheduled in Americus. The Americus Easter Egg Hunt, part of Project Playscape, will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Americus Trusler Ballfield Complex. The event will include age divisions for children 12 and under. Organizers encourage attendees to follow Project Playscape on Facebook for updates related to weather or event changes.
