Emporia Community Foundation CEO Loni Heinen has a few things on her slate as she continues to adjust to being the organization’s new leader.
First is the fact she’s actually the CEO after nearly 20 years on staff and the sudden change in roles for Linda Kehres-Schmidt from CEO to advisor.
Heinen is getting new Program Officer Sarah Barrett up to speed. She is also working on the Community Foundation’s scholarship program and the annual report. She also has to change offices.
But the key focus is on the annual Match Day — the fundraising behemoth that has now generated $4.6 million for community groups and nonprofits across the KVOE listening area over 12 years after last year’s effort raised a record $829,000. Heinen isn’t the only one busy with Match Day preparations. It’s an effort that also involves other Community Foundation staffers and the Match Day Committee.
Nonprofits must have an established fund with the Community Foundation, have an annual operating budget under $175,000 and serve residents in Lyon or surrounding counties.
Match Day is a program that clearly benefits the participating groups, but Heinen says it also benefits the Community Foundation.
The application deadline is at the close of business Tuesday. Participants will be announced May . Match Day is Nov. 16. Final totals will be announced on Giving Tuesday, or Dec. 1.
