After months of planning and anticipation, the date for the local community’s link-up with the International Space Station has been announced.
The link-up, through the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) program, will take place next Wednesday, April 8th, at 9 am on the campus of Emporia State University. 28 questions, submitted by local students, have been approved for the link-up and will be presented to astronauts on board the ISS during the event.
ESU was announced as a participant in the program last November and is one of five educational contacts scheduled, and is one of just two contacts taking place in the United States, with the other taking place on Thursday at Walnut Grove Elementary School in Suwanee, Georgia. Other scheduled contacts will take place in Italy on Wednesday, April 1, with two taking place in France on April 9th.
Local program administrators will join KVOE’s Talk of Emporia on Tuesday at 11:06 am to discuss the event in greater detail.
