Emporia Fire battled a house fire in downtown Emporia early Wednesday morning.
Fire was reported at 809 Market by a neighbor around 1 am. Fire Capt. Greg Davis confirmed an earlier report from Police Sgt. Dominick Vortherms, saying there was fire and smoke coming from the roof when fire crews arrived.
Davis says there was extensive damage, due to a combination of fire, smoke and firefighting.
Nobody was home at the time of the fire. While the origination point appears to be an upstairs bedroom, the cause is currently pending.
