Data, class sizes and an agreement with Emporia Police are all part of the USD 253 Emporia Board of Education’s meeting slate this week.
Board members are meeting Wednesday in part to do a “data dive” into the winter 2026 assessment results from FastBridge. A comparison with the winter 2025 quarter is part of that conversation.
Board members will also discuss class sizes and student-to-teacher ratios as a way to guide policy on potential transfer students for the 2026-27 academic year.
Separately, the board may approve updates to a School Resource Officer agreement with the Emporia Police Department as requested by the police department. This will ensure that police officer policies like use of force will use Emporia Police standards and polices to guide officer conduct. The updates also will ensure Emporia Police will maintain insurance coverage for SROs and will set policies for short-term oversight when SROs are unavailable.
Other business includes a carpet replacement project at Emporia High and Emporia Middle School for a combined cost of over $220,000 and, as part of the consent agenda, a one-year extension of the Emporia High agreement with Jobs for America’s Graduates-Kansas through the 2026-27 academic year at no cost to the district. JAG-K is among the programs up for closure as part of the district’s cost containment plan.
The meeting is at 6 pm Wednesday at Mary Herbert Education Center.
