Emporia High baseball dropped their Centennial League debut series Tuesday at Soden’s Grove to Junction City.
The Bluejays took game one 5-3.
Emporia took the early lead on a lead off single from Oliver Kline and an error brought him in with two outs. The Spartans made it 2-0 in fourth. A walk from Micah Gray and Jackson Meinke followed by a sacrifice bunt and then sacrifice fly from Chase Harrington doubled the lead. The Bluejays tied it at two in the fifth. EHS took the lead in the sixth off of one hit and three walks. JC scored three in the seventh to pull off the win.
Harrington took the loss in two innings of relief. He gave up two hits and three runs two were earned.
The Bluejays scored two unearned runs in the third and that’s all they needed in a 2-1 game two win.
Emporia got one back in the bottom of the frame after a Kline walk and Luke Marshall double. The Spartans loaded up the bases with one out in the seventh. The game ended with back-to-back strikeouts from Meinke and Harrington.
Eluterio Trujillo look the loss. He was dominate with seven punch outs in seven innings with two unearned runs.
EHS falls to 5-3 (0-2). Coach Anthony Markowitz isn’t too worried about falling behind in the league standings.
The Spartans travel to Washburn Rural on Friday.
