SOS is encouraging area residents to attend a special documentary as it observes Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The free screening “Magic and Monsters” will take place April 20 at the Emporia High auditorium. Child Advocacy Center Director Ginny Samples says the movie is a reminder abuse and neglect can happen in just about any setting imaginable.
Samples also says abuse can come from people trusted by the victim.
Children and Latinx Victim Advocate Cheyla Cervantes says the impacts of child abuse extend well beyond the victim.
Cervantes says abuse of one child can also extend for years.
SOS offers Court-Appointed Special Advocates, a Child Visitation and Exchange Center, support groups for children and adults who have survived abuse and neglect, Crisis Services and the Child Advocacy Center.
