The Emporia State baseball team couldn’t take advantage of a seven-inning gem by starting pitcher Colby Deaver in a 3-1 loss to Missouri Southern to start a three-game series at the Trusler Sports Complex in Emporia Friday night. Neither team had many opportunities to score with the starters dealing early. Each team scored a run in the first, but when Deaver was pulled after completing the seventh and tossing 100 pitches, the Hornet bullpen blinked and the Lions plated two to take the lead. ESU managed just three hits in the game. Head coach John Martin said it was a well-pitched game.
ESU (27-10, 14-9 MIAA) hosts Southern for game two Saturday. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. Coverage begins around 1:45 p.m. on Mix 104.9.
