Mark Schreiber is running for re-election.
Schreiber filed for re-election Friday and announced his campaign Saturday. If elected in November, Schreiber will serve a sixth term in office.
Schreiber tells KVOE News there are several things prompting him to run, including his experience with the energy industry — in part as a lawmaker, in part as a longtime administrator at Evergy’s predecessor Westar as well as Kansas Gas and Electric — will serve him well if he’s re-elected.
A graduate of Emporia State University, Schreiber sees K-12 literacy as a major point of education policy.
If elected, Schreiber says property tax policy will be a major discussion topic. He also says lawmakers need to look at the number of tax exemptions, deductions or credits that have been approved in past years.
Schreiber was first elected in 2016. He currently serves on the House Education; Judiciary; and Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications committees as well as the Legislative Modernization Committee. A moderate Republican, Schreiber says he will continue his work towards finding common-sense solutions and will “continue fighting for the families and businesses that make up our diverse community.”
The 60th District includes most of Emporia, as well as Americus and much of western Lyon County.
