The Emporia State disc golf team claimed its third national title as the Hornets won the men’s D2 national championship at the College Disc Golf National Championships in Rock Hill, S. C. on Saturday. Jaden Rye previously won the men’s D1 national singles title while Atlanta Krueger claimed last year’s ladies singles championship. The Hornets came back from three strokes down to NC State to start the day. The Hornets parred the 18th hold while the Wolfpack bogeyed to take the title. Isaiah Esquivel, Caden Stucky, Joshua Sterner, and Grant Yoder finished -15 to win by one stroke. The Hornet men’s team was denied falling to Milligan by a single shot after finishing -26. The Hornets led by one going into the day but a Milligan birdie on #16 was the difference. It’s the second time in four years the Hornets have finished as the national runner-up. The Lady Hornets came up short in the women’s competition with the ESU Black team of Madeline Joiner and Isabella Parker finishing third. They shot a -12 for the tournament but couldn’t keep pace with Milligan who wrapped up the title edging out Liberty by one shot at -27. The Lady Hornet Gold team of Krueger and Maya Ringgold finished fifth.
