The eventual “disposition” of Newman Regional Health’s Cora Miller Hall will be among the discussion points for Lyon County commissioners Thursday.
Newman Regional Health announced plans to eventually demolish the building in February, following the move of the Emporia State nursing department from the hospital grounds to campus and the new Nursing + Student Wellness Center. Repurposing or removal has been under discussion by hospital administrators for several years, and the board moved towards demolition because of ongoing maintenance and upkeep needs.
Built in 1972, the building honors Miller, who was the hospital’s first superintendent back in 1922.
Other business for the commission includes potential approval of a nearly $7,800 invoice from Motorola for a camera system and installation kits for a Sheriff’s Office vehicle and a nearly $43,000 outlay to Welborn Sales for corrugated metal culverts. An executive session is planned to discuss confidential third-party data.
The meeting starts at 9 am at the County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
