Jobless rates held steady for Emporia — and nearly steady for Lyon County — in the latest monthly report from the Kansas Department of Labor.
Emporia held at 5.6 percent between January and February. Lyon County went from 5.3 to 5.4 percent. The impact of the Hopkins shutdown in late February is likely not reflected in the current report, and this information obviously reflects time well before the Michelin layoffs announced earlier this week.
Most other area counties saw mostly modest percentage increases, including Chase, Coffey, Morris and Wabaunsee counties. Osage County actually had a slight decline from 4.8 to 4.6 percent. Morris County has the area low unemployment rate at 3.7 percent. Coffey County has the area high at 5.7 percent.
The statewide jobless rate held at 3.9 percent.
