The Emporia State baseball team had their best offensive game of the season on the way to a 25-15 victory over Fort Hays State on Tuesday at the Trusler Sports Complex in Emporia. It was the most runs for the Hornets since 2017. With the wind blowing out, pitchers struggled to keep the ball down as the teams combined for 29 hits, but the Hornets outhomered the Tigers 6-1. 7 of 9 Hornets in the lineup had multiple hits in the game with Noah Steele finishing 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs while Nathon Cruz also drove in five runs. Every Hornet in the lineup scored. Head coach John Martin said the offense did its job on a tough day to pitch.
Dominic Felix finished 2-for-4 with two RBI’s and he said the focus was to keep stacking runs throughout the game.
Owen Ruge (1-0) picked up his first career win by pitching a shutout fifth inning out of the bullpen for the Hornets. ESU (31-13, 18-12 MIAA) took the series 2-1 over Fort Hays State after falling to Hays in series in 2024 and 2025. ESU heads to Topeka for their final road series of the year to face Washburn in the Turnpike Tussle. The three-game series begins Friday at 5:00 p.m. at Falley Field.
