Spring Landfill Days begin Saturday. Interim Public Works Director Brian Silcott says it’s a popular service offered by the city of Emporia.
Aside from one project a few weeks ago, Silcott says the crew has been on normal schedule leading into Free Landfill Days.
Free Landfill Days go through May 3. Hours are 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday and 1-5 pm Sunday. One free trip is allowed and people must bring their April electric bill — digital or paper — to use the service. Again, the first 1,000 pounds are free to the resident. Additional materials will be charged at normal rates. Silcott says standard landfill rates apply for refrigerants and tires. Allowed vehicles include passenger cars, light trucks and trailers. Loads must be secured or covered to avoid penalty fees.
