Emporia High baseball dropped game one of the doubleheader against Manhattan, but salvaged game two with a walk off win at Soden’s Grove on Friday.
Manhattan picked up the game one win 13-2.
The Indians scored three in the second and third to build a commanding lead. They added an additional run in the fifth. The Black and Red got two back in the sixth. Luke Marshall doubled in Micah Gray and Marshall scored on a sac fly Grady Howe.
EHS manged five hits and Gray accounted for three of them.
Gray took the loss on the mound. He surrendered six runs in four innings.
Emporia needed eight innings in game two for the 3-2 victory.
Both teams scored once in the first. EHS used an Oliver Kline leadoff double and a sacrifice fly from Chase Harrington to tie it up. The Indians took the advantage back in the third and the Spartans tied it in the fourth. Howe singled in a run to draw it at two. Neither team scored until the bottom of the eight when Emporia loaded up the bases and Harrington drove in his second RBI on a sac fly in the game.
Colton Eubanks earned the win in seven and two-third innings with nine punchouts. He credited his off-speed pitch for the strong night.
Emporia ended a nine game losing streak with the win. Coach Anthony Markowitz hopes the win can start a positive run.
EHS now 6-10 (1-7) will host Iola on Friday, May 1.
