Both Emporia State tennis teams came up just short on the road Friday, with the Hornet men and women each falling 4-3 in tightly contested duals.
The women dropped a heartbreaker at Northeastern State. ESU rallied to take the doubles point, highlighted by wins from Giovanna Ferreira and Carla Paul Piquer, and Erin Cahill with Giulia Russu. In singles, Russu and Cahill added victories, but the RiverHawks secured the match with three key wins.
The Lady Hornets end the regular season at Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday.
On the men’s side, the Hornets also grabbed the doubles point against Augustana behind strong showings from Anton Sarunic and Diego Calvo, plus Alexis Mattenberger and Dhruveer Grover. In singles, Calvo and Gwendal Mazuay earned wins, but Augustana edged out four matches to seal the 4-3 decision.
The dual ends the regular season for the Hornets.
