If you wanted a good meal and some good conversations, Emporia’s first rendition of The Longest Table was a good place to go.
First Congregational Church opened its front lawn to over 100 people. Organizer Tyler Curtis says likely could not have gone much better.
Curtis and Kansas Spanish Speakers CEO LeLan Dains had been discussing ways to bring different segments of the community together for months, also bringing in Just As You Are Rainbow Sanctuary. Dains says the meal set off several small-scale conversations, either at the table or nearby.
Given the initial success, plans are at least in motion to bring The Longest Table back — but perhaps in another location.
Dains floated another potential location while thanking Pastor Ashton McDonald and the First Congregational Church churchgoers for their hospitality.
Regardless of the location, Dains says The Longest Table may return later this year.
