Kansas Congressman Derek Schmidt believes a “skinny” Farm Bill may be in front of lawmakers this week.
On KVOEs monthly Morning Show interview recently, Schmidt expanded on the certainty aspect of the pending legislation.
Schmidt said the five-year bill is three years overdue. About 70 percent of the current package, he says, has been extended, updated or reauthorized.
Separately, Schmidt has been concerned about staffing at USDA offices, calling it “a serious headache” — especially for ag producers seeing delays in processing applications, payments or contracts. Issues seem limited to local Farm Service Agency and Natural Resources Conservation Service offices, but Schmidt and others say that ongoing lack of staff could cause disruptions across all USDA programs.
