Riding conditions should be good for La Grind, launching Saturday and Sunday from downtown Emporia.
High temperatures will be in the mid-60s Saturday and low 80s Sunday. Race organizer Tom Hayden doesn’t expect any weather-related issues, even with rainfall earlier in the week.
La Grind has taken a unique place in Lyon County’s cycling culture, and Hayden says it’s one he and other organizers embrace.
Hayden says La Grind has also become a feeder event in some ways for other races in Lyon County, specifically Unbound Gravel and Flint Hills Gravel Ride and Run. Another reason La Grind stands out: it’s a major fundraiser.
Handlebars serves the Emporia area and also Mexico.
All rides launch from in front of High Gear Cyclery, 520 Commercial — and there are a lot of ride options. Two-day options include 165 total miles, 115 total miles and 60 total miles, with the Panaracer 100-mile dash, a 50-mile and 30-mile race and a 15-mile group ride all Saturday and the High Gear 65-mile gravel grind Sunday. People can register online or they can register at High Gear until 8:30 am Saturday.
