The Emporia State baseball team opened their final series of the regular season by run-ruling the Northeastern State RiverHawks 12-2 in eight innings. The Hornets took a 7-0 lead through three with a five-run third inning. Brady Unrein plated four of the runs with ESU’s first hit of the day, a grand slam to left field. The ‘Hawks got single runs in the fourth and fifth, but ESU tacked on with two in the sixth, two in the seventh, and the knockout blow in the eighth to end the game. Frankie Santiago homered for the 14th time this season in the win while starter Colby Deaver (10-2) picked up another quality start lasting seven innings for the win. Unrein said the team had good at bats down the stretch of the game.
