Once again, ESB Financial provided an important service to help residents and businesses protect themselves from the threat of fraud this weekend.
The local bank put on its annual Community Wide Free Shred and E-Waste recycling day at its Merchant Street location and ESB staff were busy from the get-go with several vehicles already in line 30 minutes before the event officially kicked off. This year’s event coincides with the bank’s 125th anniversary and while the shred day has not been around for nearly that long, it has become a staple event for ESB and one that the community relies on heavily.
ESB President Michael Black.
As mentioned, the purpose of the shred day is to help protect individuals and businesses from fraud, which continues to be a “monumental” issue not just locally but across the nation.
More than the shred service, which only occurs once a year, Black says the biggest component of the event is the opportunity to educate residents so they can help keep themselves secured year round.
This year’s event managed to collect 15,000 lbs of waste, 5,000 more than the previous year, and a truckload, over 96 feet, of E-waste over the course of two hours.
