The ongoing legacy of Tom Stebbins will take on a new, visible role as Flint Hills Technical College continues raising funds for its Advancing Industry Education Center.
The Tom Stebbins Memorial Golf Tournament Committee donated $10,000 to the Advancing Tomorrow campaign, with the check presentation taking place Wednesday. Committee member Chris Navarro says it was important to continue Stebbins’ work with the college through the golf tournament.
Navarro says the new Advancing Industry Education Center puts Flint Hills Technical College and Emporia ahead of the game.
Flint Hills Technical College Vice President for Advancement Mike Crouch says Stebbins supported FHTC in numerous ways, including service as the advisory board president from 2008-2012.
Crouch says the donation is big from a campaign standpoint. It’s also big from a recognition standpoint.
Stebbins took classes at the college before beginning his career, with stops at American Electric, IBP and Menu Foods before owning and operating Kansas Generators LLC. Stebbins died in late 2015 after a battle with lymphoma. The golf tournament in his memory has generated over $40,000 for the FHTC Tom Stebbins Memorial Scholarship Fund, enough to endow two Industrial Engineering Technology scholarships at the college.
This year’s tournament will be Aug. 8. Registration is open online through golf4tom.com.
Meanwhile, the Advancing Education Center continues pushing towards the goal of $17 million. Advanced manufacturing, industrial engineering, automation and robotics will all be taught inside the building at 18th and Graphic Arts once it’s constructed. Click here for more information.
