There’s a slight chance of showers and storms near Emporia by late Tuesday, and an even smaller risk of severe weather.
Storms could affect the southeast half of the KVOE listening area from around 4-8 pm, according to the National Weather Service, if they can develop along a cold front moving across the area during that time. If storms fire, there is a marginal risk for hail to the size of quarters and wind gusts up to 60 mph just south of the Kansas Turnpike south of Emporia and also along Interstate 35 just east of Emporia.
Before any storm chances, it will be a hot, windy day, with highs in the upper 80s and south winds as high as 30 mph.
High temperatures will be in the 80s Wednesday and Thursday before jumping into the 90s for Friday and the upcoming weekend. Slight to moderate chances of showers and storms are in the picture Thursday night and from Friday night into early next week.
KVOE and KVOE.com will have updates.
