The Kansas Division of Emergency Management has reached out to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to have joint Public Assistance Program Preliminary Damage Assessments after severe weather last month.
PDA work is a major step as state and federal agencies look ad disaster-related damage. The process includes assessing damage to public infrastructure like roads, bridges and utilities and then determining whether that damage meets federal damage thresholds for reimbursement payments. It also determines whether a disaster declaration should be recommended to President Trump.
Severe weather, including several tornadoes, affected Kansas on April 26-27, including a damaging EF-1 tornado at Lake Kahola on the Morris County side of the lake on April 27 and other tornadoes that evening in Osage and Wabaunsee counties. All three counties are set to have PDA visits.
