Freshman outfielder Evan Abbott announced that he was entering the transfer portal via Twitter on Wednesday. Abbott hit .343 this year for the Hornets with eight home runs while driving in 54 runs, the second-most RBIs on the team. Abbott, a freshman from Kansas City, Mo., was the MIAA Freshman of the Year and earned Third Team All-MIAA honors. He committed to Emporia State for former head coach Brad Hill in August of 2024. ESU went 37-16 in 2026 and finished sixth in the MIAA and made a run to the MIAA Tournament championship game last week under first-year coach John Martin.
