Two people were hurt in a crash in downtown Emporia on Thursday.
Two vehicles collided at 11th and Merchant around 2 pm. Police Capt. Ray Mattas says Debra Baragary, age 63 of Emporia, was driving a car northbound when her vehicle was hit by a westbound car driven by 27-year-old Omar Velazquez, hometown not listed. Emporia Fire Capt. Wade Schmidt says Baragary was briefly trapped and had to be extricated.
Both drivers were taken to Newman Regional Health with suspected minor injuries. Velazquez failed to yield, according to Mattas, and was cited — both for that and for failing to have proof of insurance.
