Emporia High School’s girls track and field team earned a runner-up finish while the boys placed fourth Friday at the Centennial League meet in Junction City.
The Lady Spartans finished second behind Manhattan in the team standings, while Junction City claimed the boys league title.
The Black and Red collected several medal-winning performances on the girls side. Harley Smith placed third in the 100-meter dash and added a second-place finish in the 200 meters. Emma Beatty finished second in the 800-meter run, while Madison Evans was runner-up in the 1600 meters.
Page Newland led the field events with league titles in both the long jump and triple jump. Allison Aeschliman earned silver in the 100-meter hurdles, Micah Huber took third in the pole vault, and Kaylee DeWitt captured gold in the 300-meter hurdles.
The Lady Spartans also placed third in both the 4×100-meter relay and 4×400-meter relay.
For the Emporia High boys, Ben Collins won the 110-meter hurdles and added a second-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles. Rylan Crowell finished bronze in the long jump, while Cohen Bloomquist earned second in the pole vault.
Chance Duncan turned in a strong performance in the throwing events, placing second in the shot put, winning the discus, and taking second in the javelin.
EHS will next compete at the Regional Qualifying meet Friday, May 22, at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka.
