Emporia and Lyon County are seeing improvements for unemployment numbers for the second straight month.
Emporia’s jobless rate went from 5.4 percent in January and February to 5.1 percent in March and, now, 4.2 percent in April. Lyon County has a similar trajectory, going from 5.4 percent in January to 5.3 percent in February to 5 percent in March and now 4.1 percent in April.
Area counties all had decreases, in Coffey County’s case by more than a percentage point. Morris County has the lowest unemployment rate areawide at 2.9 percent, followed by Wabaunsee County at 3 percent. Greenwood County has the area high at 4.2 percent.
