An Emporia man reportedly escaped serious injury following a single vehicle crash early Sunday morning.
According to Lyon County Corporal Robert Miller, Lyon County Deputies and Emporia Fire and EMS were called to the 1500 block of Road F, roughly 10 miles west of Emporia, around 2 am for an individual in need of assistance. Upon arrival, emergency crews found a 2018 black Chevrolet Silverado submerged in the Cottonwood River.
According to findings from the initial investigation, the vehicle was traveling northbound in the area and failed to negotiate a curve, leaving the roadway to the west. The Silverado then struck a section of concrete to a bridge, sending it airborne and into the river.
The driver, 20-year-old Charlie Strom of Emporia, managed to exit the vehicle after it landed in the Cottonwood and was examined at the scene. Strom suffered what are being called non life threatening injuries as a result of the accident.
No citations have been issued, however, Miller says that decision is pending further investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
