The Emporia Public Library courtyard became a busy place in a hurry as the library had its annual Summer Reading Kickoff Party on Wednesday.
Director Pauline Stacchini says the event is one of the highlights of the library’s calendar.
Stacchini says library staffers placed little learning tidbits into all corners of the library, both for the kickoff and for the overall program.
Families had the option of picking up a paper log to track reading minutes or downloading the new Reader Zone app for that purpose. Readers who hit weekly goals are eligible for prizes. There were also other activities, including a Dino (DY-no) Dig and face painting, to track with the program’s theme of “Unearth a Story.”
Stacchini thanked library partners like the Emporia Arts Council for its willingness to offer face painting and its presence at the upcoming Kids Koncerts starting June 3, Freddy’s for providing dirt-and-worms treats for the worm races and the Friends of the Library for funding summer activities.
The Summer Reading Program ends July 31.
