Shower and thunderstorm chances persist areawide through Saturday night, and TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says stronger storms can’t be ruled out Saturday evening.
The written forecast doesn’t indicate as such, but the graphics from the National Weather Service point to a marginal risk area for Sunday evening as well.
Any strong storms Saturday evening would be a concern for Unbound Gravel riders and people at the Unbound Gravel Finish Fest, which doesn’t end until midnight.
Current outlooks have areas along and west of a line from Eskridge to Admire to Fall River, including Emporia, in the marginal risk area Saturday for hail up to quarter size and wind gusts up to 60 mph. Sunday’s marginal risk is areawide for hail up to golf ball size and wind gusts up to 70 mph. Rain may be heavy at times, but weekend accumulations may be under a half-inch in many locations.
While racing conditions may not get to peanut-butter consistency for Unbound riders this weekend, the relative humidity may be a major factor for everybody. The National Weather Service Forecast Points information page indicates dewpoints in the mid-60s to low 70s Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
