Civic leaders supporting the Flint Hills Digital Campus data center project as announced Tuesday have repeatedly mentioned the impact on higher higher education, most immediately with students at Flint Hills Technical College. Which is just fine for President Caron Daugherty.
Local leaders have said the college stands to benefit with several programs, and Daugherty agrees — starting with robotics.
Daugherty sees the college as a major player in filling the employment needs at the Digital Campus, regardless of which businesses set up shop there.
This also highlights the fundraising work ongoing for over a year on the Advancing Tomorrow capital campaign and the Advancing Industry Education Center. Daugherty says this will help to set education curriculum for the lines of study already established and some that aren’t.
Moreover, Daugherty sees the data center as an attraction to keep people here and bring others to the area.
Like other local leaders, Daugherty sees potential partnerships with “wraparound services” already in place like medicine, dental services and childcare.
