Emporia High School is searching for a new leader for its softball program. On Wednesday, the school announced the resignation of Head Softball Coach Tom McClure, who spent the last three seasons leading the Lady Spartans.
In a press release issued by the athletic department, McClure noted that his decision to step away stems from a desire to prioritize family time, while expressing deep gratitude for his time with the Lady Spartans.
“After much consideration, I have decided to step away from my coaching responsibilities to focus on being closer to my family, I am incredibly grateful for my time at Emporia High School and the opportunity to work alongside a supportive administration that consistently encouraged growth, collaboration, and long-term planning within our athletic programs.”
While a search for the next head coach will begin immediately, McClure noted he leaves confident in the program’s trajectory, pointing toward the strong foundation built within the community’s youth programs.
“I look forward to watching the program, its athletes, and all Spartan athletics continue to thrive.”
During his three-year tenure, McClure compiled a 28-49 overall record, including a 12-15 mark this past spring season.
