Emporia’s Walmart superstore, Dynamic Discs and Champions Landing have teamed up yet again this weekend to put the FUN in FUNdraising.
Specifically, the three entities came together to host the second disc golf fundraiser in support of the Children’s Miracle Network, a cause that Walmart nationally supports year round but has much larger focus on during the month of June according to Emporia store manager Mick Schroeder.
Saturday’s fundraising tournament included three different sessions that had a little something for everybody including the first session which was all about fun. The morning’s doubles competition had a circus like feel to it encouraging participants to dress up, toss a disc in clown shoes, ring cowbells and even had a ringmaster announcing teams as they stepped up to the tee-box.
While Walmart had the initial concept for the fundraiser last year, Dynamic Discs was the entity helping to organize all of the exciting chaos, a role that Dynamic Events Coordinator Jackie Morris says the company is more than happy to take on.
68 teams were registered for the day’s event according to Morris who says that list included a lot of individuals who simply play for great causes.
Hosting all of the fun was Emporia’s Champions Landing with owner Jeremy Rusco saying he and his whole team are very proud to be a part of such a great cause. Rusco also commended Walmart for its active nature in the community in recent years telling KVOE News that it is easy for people to see Walmart and other national chains as nothing more than that, but Saturday’s event is just one of the many ways Emporia’s store is proving to be far more than just a national brand.
Schroeder tells KVOE News the store has strived to be as active as possible over the last several years and the success for those efforts truly lies with the entire team.
In addition to the morning’s doubles fund round, the event also included an afternoon flex singles competition and a free evening glow round. Fundraising totals from the event are currently pending.
