How prepared are you? A better question may be, what are you prepared for?
You can find an answer to both questions at the 2026 Lyon County Preparedness Fair, which is coming up Saturday at the Lyon County Fairgrounds Anderson Building, starting at 10 am. The event, which is completely free to attend, provides information on a range of preparedness topics, with Lyon County Emergency Management Director Jarrod Fell calling it a one-stop shop for preparation.
In addition to providing resources and information on a variety of emergencies, Fell says the fair can also help you provide you with simple steps to developing both long and short-term plans.
Fell adds the event comes at a great time with the severe weather season in full swing and a somewhat “atypical” pattern of tornadic development noted in the KVOE listening area over the last month.
The preparedness fair will run until 2 pm Saturday with a prize drawing at 1:30 pm and free hot dogs provided by Newman Regional Health from 11 am to 1 pm. There are also plans at this time for a landing of a Life Save helicopter on the fairgrounds; however, that and the free Newman hot dogs will both be weather dependent, with showers and storms in the forecast Saturday.
