Emporia State baseball coach John Martin has hired former Hornet Ty Barclay to join his coaching staff for 2027. Barclay spent last season at Missouri Southern where he helped the Lions go 34-19 and make the NCAA Tournament. He previously spent four years as an assistant at the University of Mary. Barclay, a Canada native, started his collegiate career at Garden City CC and was an All-Jayhawk honoree before transferring to Emporia State. He hit .317 for the Hornets with a .404 on base percentage as a junior in 2019. He was a team captain on the 2020 season which was cancelled due to Coronavirus. He then transferred to UMary where he hit .320 for the Marauders leading them to the NSIC Tournament. E-State went 37-16 with a 22-14 MIAA record in 2026 and made a postseason run to the MIAA Tournament championship game.
