Severe weather earlier this spring has prompted Kansas Governor Laura Kelly to request a major presidential disaster declaration for several area counties.
Governor Kelly has asked for that declaration involving Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties after severe weather April 26-27, including evidence of all severe storm hazards. The governor is seeking assistance through both the Hazard Mitigation and Public Assistance programs after damage to public infrastructure, utility systems and transportation systems.
Governor Kelly says the extent of damage during that April severe weather period has made federal resources a “critical” part of the recovery process.
There’s no word on when President Trump will announce his decision.
This does not include the tornadic activity at Lake Kahola, which happened earlier in April.
