The Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas Board of Directors is drafting a letter of support for the proposed Flint Hills Digital Campus project.
The letter of support comes after a unanimous vote by the board and will be sent to the Emporia City Commission and Emporia Planning Commission, stating the RDA’s commitment to continuing the exploratory process of the project. RDA Interim Vice President Brad Kraft.
Before that action, RDA board member and Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods addressed much of the public commentary that had developed since the announcement of the project’s potential two weeks ago. One of the chief comments that has been stated by those opposed to the development is that the project is “already a done deal,” something Woods stated “could not be further from the truth.”
Woods also responded to the variety of concerns that have been expressed by the public to the potential location of a data center on the campus, saying they are welcoming of the commentary and that it is “critical” as it creates an “opportunity to learn.”
Kraft shared that sentiment and stated that “every concern that people express is a legitimate concern
In other business on Friday, Interim RDA President Lyle Butler and Kraft noted that conversations are continuing with local employers exploring opportunities for expansion and growth. The RDA Board will reconvene for its regular monthly meeting in July.
