The state’s unemployment rate went down slightly for the state between May and June. That wasn’t the case for Emporia or Lyon County.
Statewide, the jobless rate went from 3.9 percent to 3.8 percent.
Locally, Emporia’s jobless rate went from 4.3 percent to 4.7 percent. Lyon County’s rate went from 4.2 percent to 4.6 percent.
Almost all other counties followed suit with Emporia and Lyon County, not the state, when it came to unemployment percentages. Most increases were modest, although Coffey County had an increase of nearly a full percentage point. Coffey County also has the area’s highest unemployment at 4.3 percent. Morris County has the area low at 3.2 percent. Greenwood County remained flat at 4.2 percent.
